CONTRACT STATUS: Open-ended

ROLE DIMENSION: The position requires the individual to work seamlessly and collaboratively with TradeWinds personnel (and non-TW personnel) in The St Maarten Base. The Technician is responsible for maintaining, servicing, and repairing yachts in the company fleet to ensure they remain in peak operating condition and comply with safety and regulatory standards. This role requires hands-on technical expertise across mechanical, electrical, and other boat systems, as well as strong troubleshooting skills to support yachts both dockside and at sea.

The job is Tuesday till Saturday (exact working hours to be agreed with the base management). However, when needed you will be required to work over-time and on public holidays, as well as on Sundays or Mondays in case of emergency. Additional time off will be scheduled for overtime work, at an appropriate time as agreed with the base manager.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY

• Perform routine maintenance and servicing of yacht engines, generators, and auxiliary systems.
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, plumbing and electrical faults.
• Conduct preventive maintenance inspections in line with company schedules and manufacturer guidelines. Is responsible for working through and executing the daily work order lists.
• Is responsible for maintaining and keeping all the vessels in the fleet at the highest possible standard – both mechanically and aesthetically.
• Assist in haul-outs, surveys, and refit/repair projects as required.
• Maintain accurate service records, logs, and reports in company systems (e.g., Vessel Vanguard).
• Liaise with Base Managers to ensure timely availability of spares and to adhere to the maintenance budget and explore more cost-effective options and parts where applicable.
• Support Captains and crew with technical queries and urgent repairs.
• Ensure all work complies with safety standards, environmental regulations, and company procedures.
• Participate in emergency call-out support when yachts experience technical issues during charters.
• Train or guide crew in basic technical checks and daily maintenance procedures. SKILLS AND BEHAVIOURS Accountability:

• Valid marine/mechanical trade certification (preferred).
• STCW or similar maritime safety certification (advantageous).

EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES:

• Proven experience as a marine mechanic, preferably in the yachting or boating industry.
• Strong knowledge of marine diesel engines, outboards, generators, pumps, and hydraulics.
• Familiarity with onboard electrical systems, refrigeration, plumbing, and air-conditioning considered an advantage.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
• Hands-on problem solver with a proactive approach and attention to detail.
• Comfortable working independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Physical ability to work in confined spaces and lift equipment or parts.
• Valid driver's license.
